Looking out my window

This is the view from my car as I was stopped at Pyramid Provincial Park for a quick photo shoot of the beach. This little park has a great picnic area for use during the summer which I used often last year. I no doubt will use it again this coming summer.

Okanagan Lake Provincial Park

Having not hit a golf ball in over 5 months due to Hernia Surgery, i spent an hour this morning at the Driving Range having a swing at 50 balls for $7 at the Two Eagles Golf Course in West Kelowna. The Driving Range has a very nice view of Lake Okanagan and the surrounding Mountains.

Okanagan Lake Provincial Park

Located halfway between Peachland and Summerland you will find Okanagan Lake Provincial Park. Just off Highway 97, the major arterial road along Okanagan Lake, this Provincial Park offers North and South Campgrounds, great views of the Lake and Lake access for those hot days of summer.

Today though, i wasn’t looking for a place to sleep, nor was i looking to cool down in the fresh waters of the lake, the weather being overcast and a bit cool. Today i was here to take a walk through the Provincial Park, a whole 1 km of park, that seperates the North and South Campgrounds. The Upper Trail is a gentle stroll with some stairs that might make it hard for some but overall, it’s fairly flat. There is lots of fauna along the trail and you will have plenty of opportunity to see birds. Being parallel to the highway, the traffic noise does affect the serenity of the upper trail but not so much that it makes it un-worthwhile. I didn’t venture down to the shoreline so can’t comment on if the road noise can be heard down there. This little hike isn’t for the hardcore adventurer looking to put there strength and fitness to there maximum but you will find amongst the trees a wonderful example of what life in the Okanagan is really like. Find more pictures of the trail here in my Flickr Album.

Hardy Falls Hike

Todays Hike took me on the Hardy Falls walk near Antlers Beach south of Peachland. It’s a nice gentle walk that takes less then half an hour from the car park to the Water Fall and there are plenty of park benches to take a rest if you’re just out for a stroll. The trail is approximately 1km long and crosses Deep Creek several times using wooden bridges.

This is a great little walk if you only have a short amount of time or are looking for a nice calm relaxing shady place for a picnic. There is nothing too strenuous to this walk as it’s very flat with hardly any elevation gain. During the fall, the creek becomes home to Kokanee Salmon that swim up river to Spawn. I will be back later in the year to see if i can catch the Salmon before bear take over the park.

Peachland Hikes

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, it’s time to get out and about and enjoy the sunshine. Yesterday i took a hike that is literally only across the road. However i haven’t been able to find any maps for the area. There is one trail that one day i will follow to find out where it goes but unfortunately yesterday, i wasn’t feeling 100% as i’m currently suffering from Pneumonia.
Trying to research hikes and trails in Peachland has pulled up a few that i have travelled and also some that are on the list to be done.

Lookout Ridge

The Lookout Ridge is one that i need to check out.

Nestled in the elbow of Lake Okanagan and surrounded on three sides by valleys and mountains, Peachland offers an exciting variety of walking and hiking trails.
The Peachland Lookout trail offers easy hiking and beautiful lake views just a short drive up Princeton Road above the town.

North American Robin

We have many of these birds hanging around our place in Canada at the moment. It is now early spring (Mid-April) and they have migrated from the south to do there breeding. The first image you see is taken from a website and the second image, the one with the grass, is a photo i took from a bedroom window.

Taken from Wikipedia -
"The American Robin is active mostly during the day and assembles in large flocks at night. Its diet consists of invertebrates (such as beetle grubs and caterpillars), fruits and berries. It is one of the earliest bird species to lay eggs, beginning to breed shortly after returning to its summer range from its winter range. Its nest consists of long coarse grass, twigs, paper, and feathers, and is smeared with mud and often cushioned with grass or other soft materials. It is among the first birds to sing at dawn, and its song consists of several discrete units that are repeated."

Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate

-1859175136
This is my new phone I've had for about a week. It's a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate™. It's definitely the best phone I've ever had, not that I've had many good phones. I use both the iphone and android platforms and I honestly think android is far more user friendly.
At the moment, I'm really enjoying Swype. http://bit.ly/gSqAiT This really makes typing fast especially if your capable with your fingers and know the qwerty keyboard layout.
When it comes to apps for the android, I believe it is quite similar to the iphones and there isn't a problem finding an app to do what you need.
When it comes to music, the iphone is superior when it comes to syncing with your PC. However saying that, itunes isn't all that great either and I have many issues with it, such as automatically updating my music library.
Another big plus for the android that I love is it's link to gmail. I am a huge fan of Google and have used there products for many years now. Many of there products can be integrated onto android. Google maps, earth, calendar, gmail, latitude, picasa, blogger, youtube, and talk integrate so easily that I queried if I had done something wrong.
Overall, I just love my new smart phone.

I'm so lucky...

To have such a great girlfriend. Look what she bought me. That's right, Rolo drinking chocolate. Tastes great!

Samsung galaxy fascinate

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to get a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy smart phone. I've been busy downloading apps for the phone. I am actually writing this on the phone right now. Awesome!
